As part of King Middle School's after school program, City Canvas is teaching a class in which students will explore organic food, the slow food movement, and food justice issues in the context of creating art. Each session of this hands-on art class will involve creating related art.
As the semester progresses, students will contribute to the design of a large mural for the 1600 block of Shattuck Avenue, seven blocks from the King campus. Student work on portions of the mural will also be displayed on campus and in gallery settings in the late spring. Once funding for the Shattuck mural is secured, students, their families, and the community at-large will be invited to participate in the painting process as the mural is installed this spring and summer.
